Best Beauty Tips for Skin
1. Apply a SPF moisturizer and lip balm
Taking care of your skin is one of the most fundamental tips when it comes to beauty. Without applying adequate sunscreen to your skin daily, this increases your likelihood of developing wrinkles, sun spots, and other skin damaging effects down the line. Get into the routine of always putting on a moisturizer with SPF every morning.
Your beauty starts with taking good care of yourself, especially your skin’s health. That’s why it’s essential to wear a moisturizer with SPF.
We love the Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer with SPF 35. This is because it has the sun protection we want while also being a budget-friendly moisturizer that is accessible on Amazon, Target, and most makeup and grocery stores.
We also appreciate that this moisturizer is designed for combination skin. As someone with acne-prone skin, I always worry if a new product will cause me to breakout. Yet, I have never seen any breakouts as a result of this product. It also keeps my skin hydrated- which is a major plus!
2. Exfoliate a couple of times per week
It’s important to get the dead skin off your face once or twice a week. This ensures your removing unnecessary grim, dirt, and dead skin, revealing your radiate fresh face.
Consider exfoliating with a gentle facial exfoliator scrub, a facial exfoliator pad, or simply with a damp towel. No matter your method for exfoliating, it’s important to scrub gently and only exfoliate once or twice a week. If you exfoliate too frequently, this will be too harsh and damaging to your skin and may irritate and dry out your skin.
3. Less is More! Use products sparingly
When it comes to both skin care products and makeup products, I’ve found that often less is more. That’s not to say some people’s skin works better with more or less products, but sticking with your basics and staying consistent with these routines is important.
You don’t need fancy, expensive products to eliminate your acne. You don’t need a 10 step skin care routine to achieve a naturally clear, glowy face.
Stick to the basics when it comes to skin care: a cleanser, exfoliator, moisturizer, and potentially serums are really all you absolutely need. And, once you find products that work well with your face and don’t cause breakouts- stick with them! Your skin gets used to these products, so constantly trying new products and not staying consistent throws off your skin and puts you at risk for skin irritation or unnecessary breakouts.
4. Clean your makeup brushes
If your like me, the last thing on your mind is cleaning your makeup brushes. But when you really stop to think about it, when was the last time you even cleaned your makeup brushes? 6 months ago? Maybe last year?
Not consistently cleaning your makeup brushes greatly increases your chances of getting an unnecessary acne breakout. This is because over time the extra makeup product clings to the brush’s bristles, and new product is constantly dried on with each use of the brush. Gross right!
You can easily clean your makeup brushes with a simple solution of warm water and any cleanser of choice (I use a little bit of dish soap). Put this solution in a bowl or mug and lay your brushes with the bristle soaking in the solution for at least 10 minutes. You can then wipe off the access product from the bristles with a disposable towel/ napkin, or use a brush cleaning pad to thoroughly clean the bristles of the makeup brush.
5. HYDRATE

Hydration is key to maintaining naturally glowy skin. Although this may not seem like a beauty secret, it is- trust us! Without staying hydrated, your skin will look dull and dry.
Drink at least 8 cups of water a day. Carry a water bottle around as a sort of subconscious reminder for you to take periodic sips of water throughout the day. Remember, it’s important to focus on primarily drinking water and steer clear of drinking sugary drinks like soda, as this may increase your chances of breaking out.
Buy a cute water bottle to motivate you to drink more water each day. There are lots of cute water bottles on Amazon. Some of our favorites include:
- This minimalistic water bottle with time markers.
- Another time marker water bottle with motivational quotes.
- A classic insulated thermos water bottle.

6. Remove your Makeup ASAP

Although this is a rather obvious beauty tip, you MUST take off all your makeup when you come home from a night out, work, wherever. By taking your makeup off as soon as possible after your desired use, you are saving your skin from a potential breakout.
Take off all your eye makeup with an eye makeup remover solution and cotton round. We like using the Neutrogena Eye Makeup Remover. Also be sure to remove all your face makeup with warm water, a gentle cleanser, and a towel that you don’t mind getting dirty.
Time is of the essence with it comes to removing your face makeup. NEVER sleep in your makeup, no matter how tired you may be from a night out– you will regret it!
7. Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Using a gua sha and jade roller once a day helps improve the annoying puffiness in your face by helping massage your face. We find it almost comforting to follow our gua sha routine. If you’re unsure we’re to start, try Googling or following YouTube videos of how to gua sha.
Gua sha after applying a moisturizer so the massage is gentle on your skin. Also work your skin gently and treat your skin with care. You should follow a gua sha routine about once a day to see results.
8. Moisturize twice a day
Each morning and night, you should be applying moisturizer to your face. This will ensure your skin stays hydrated all day and throughout the night.
The last thing you want is dry skin as this will increase your chances of a breakout, or at the very least, give you dry, dull skin. You should be glowing all day long, so wear that moisturizer.
Apply moisturizer right after using your face wash. As mentioned above, there are facial moisturizers that have added SPF in them which is a great moisturizer option. Consider the Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer with SPF 35 as it’s both a hydrating moisturizer that also protects your skin from unwanted sun damage.
9. Don’t pick at your face
Don’t do it, don’t even look at it! Yes we know it can be extremely frustrating to have a glaring pimple right there on your face. The last thing you want is a red pimple on your face. Yet, you want to know what’s worse than this?! A group of red pimples on your face.
That’s right, if you choose to pick and keep picking at your pimple, you risk spreading bacteria to the surrounding parts of your face which will increase your chance of worsening your breakout.
Patience is important. It may take a couple days, but one pimple is much more manageable to deal with than an entire breakout.
10. Try new beauty products
You never know what will work best with your unique skin type until you try! Yes, I know it can be frustrating when a product doesn’t work, but why keep using a product that you know is causing you to breakout or not hydrating your skin properly?
If you can, try, try, try until you find a product that suits your skin. And, when you do find a product that works, stick with it!
Yes, I know it can be tempting to try new products just for the fun of it or splurge on expensive luxury beauty products, but we have found that sometimes some of the basic drug store products work wonders for your beauty routine. But, you never know until you try!
